OPEN DISCUSSION

Childhood sexual abuse and victim blaming

18 November - World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence

Approximately, three in four children experience physical and/or emotional victimization. For sexual abuse, this rate is one in five in women and 1 in 13 in men (World Health Organization, 2020).

A recent meta-analysis indicated that approximately half of individuals with a child sexual abuse history (CSA) are at risk of revictimization. Several potential mediators have been queried regarding their predictive value, such as dissociation, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, and emotion dysregulation. On top of that many of them experience also victim blaming.

Questions to be targeted in this open discussion:

  • Who is to be blamed? - controversial messages from society
  • Why family-members often choose the side of the abuser/violator?
  • Why family-members/ relatives prefer to be silent instead of opposing actively to the violence?
  • How does this affect the victim?
  • How to get out of the circle of suffering and victimhood?

You are very welcome to join if you have experienced violence, you are a relative or a friend of someone who has that kind of experiences or you are working with the victims and you want to know what to avoid and what to take into consideration.

Please register yourself through the contact form under and we will send you the link one day before.

As a participation fee we kindly ask you to make a donation for NGO SV Tugigrupid, where people with childhood sexual abuse experience get supported.
